What is the status of my background check?

The DOJ Applicant Background Check Status page shows only the progress of your fingerprint check—it does not indicate employment or licensing decisions.

Most Live Scan submissions are processed within 48–72 hours if no matching fingerprints are found in the DOJ database.

If your fingerprints match records in the database, the associated RAP sheet must be manually reviewed by a technician. This is a manual process and may take an indeterminate amount of time.

  • ACCU-Print does not receive or have access to your results.
  • Once processing is complete, results are sent directly to the requesting agency.
  • For updates after processing is complete, contact the agency that requested your Live Scan.

To check your status online, use your ATI number and your date of birth. The ATI number is located at the very bottom of your Live Scan form and always begins with the letter "B".

How do I get a copy of my criminal history?

There are two options depending on the type of record you need:

California (DOJ Record Review)

Federal (FBI Record Review)

Can I give my employer my criminal history record?

No. Under California law, you are not allowed to provide your personal criminal history record to an unauthorized third party.

Employers are also not permitted to require you to obtain or provide a copy of your record, or proof that a record does or does not exist.

If an employer needs this information, they must request it through the official Live Scan process.
